Breaking Circuit - A poetic cycle of cables and uprising

This is a rebellious and playful contemporary circus tale about daring to break free from perfection and expectations. It explores freedom, identity and the impact of technology in a digital age.

Entangled in cables in center of a spotlight stands the circus artist. Like a reimagined Rapunzel, in pursuit of freedom and self-expression in a systematic world that dictates how one is allowed to act and to be seen. The question states: What happens when we stop letting ourselves be controlled, and instead begin to carry our own light?

From being passive and controlled, the artist starts questioning the power that shapes her movements. She falls, stands, play, overcharges, recovers and creates her way through the light.

Torn between being human and robot in a digital age where everything is systematized and identity becomes secondary, Breaking Circuit becomes the journey from automatic to authentic, a metaphor of the contemporary world we live in. In this visually striking and groundbreaking performance about breaking the circle and chasing freedom, the pursuit of self-expression becomes a radiant revolution.

In a world where body and light are bound together by cables, Aelva tells a visual, physical and symbolic story about independence, social critique and the longing for freedom. While it adresses social issues, we also struggle with the pressure to act a certain way.

With original music and striking and innovative circus installations, Aelva Hedman breaks free from her role as an object in the spotlight. She pulls the plug and throws herself into the unknown.

The red thread of this journey is the spotlight that that represents how we as artists struggle with the pressure of perfection, but also the reality of the digital world we live in today. Our constant exosure to trends and media that tells us how we should look or act, and the uncertainty of how we can stay human with the increased growth in technology and A.I.
